Adventures in Waterford, Michigan, for Families

Kids for a nature walk with their teacher

Nestled in the heart of Oakland County, Waterford, Michigan, is more than just a place on the map – it’s a canvas of adventures waiting to unfold, especially for our littlest residents. As a local Waterford preschool, we’ve embarked on countless journeys with wide-eyed explorers, discovering hidden gems and family-friendly activities. Whether you’re in search of summer activities or indoor fun, we’ve got you covered.

Activities to Bolster Learning

As a Waterford preschool, we love finding activities to support all the wonderful things your little ones are learning within our classrooms. Things we love to see incorporated into your family’s activities outside of our Waterford preschool environment are:

  • Science activities
  • Reading and stories
  • Arts and crafts

All of these activities support the STEAM approach that we try to take with all of our classrooms. STEAM, or science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, is a great way to try to keep things educational and fun at the same time. There are tons of things in the Waterford area that fit these parameters, all of which we think your family will love.

Nature Walks and Farm Friends at Hess-Hathaway Park

Waterford is home to some of the coolest parks in Michigan. For families with children of all ages, Hess-Hathaway Park is a must-visit. Take a leisurely stroll along the winding paths and watch your preschooler’s eyes light up at the resident farm animals. Try packing up your favorite animal book from home, finding a cozy spot in the shade, and having a magical outdoor story time.

For little ones who might need a little more physical activity to remain entertained, try coming up with a scavenger hunt. Creating your own scavenger hunt is a great way to engage kids in their surroundings and help them think critically with interesting prompts. For example, instead of putting “find a goat” on the list, you could put “find an animal with hooves and horns” to add a bit of a challenge. This type of activity fits in perfectly with our learning objectives here at The Breakie Bunch Learning Center.

Libraries are Full of Adventure

The Waterford Township Public Library is a gorgeous community center, and we cannot recommend it enough as a Waterford preschool. Libraries are full of activities and information and have something for everyone.

Not only are there thousands of books to choose from, but there are clubs and community events that are typically all free to Oakland County Residents. The library calendar boasts activities nearly every day of the week, with story times on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Libraries are also perfect for rainy days!

Pontiac Lake Recreation Area

If you’re looking for a little slice of heavenly beach, look no further than Pontiac Lake Recreation Area. There are many different landscape types, allowing for the ultimate exploration for your little ones. From marshes and ponds to camping and beach play, Pontiac Lake is the place to be. It has year-round options like horseback riding, hiking, biking, and fishing.

Adventure Outside the Classroom

As a Waterford preschool, we think spending quality time with loved ones in the community is invaluable. From gorgeous parks and outdoor recreation to library events all year round, Waterford is a phenomenal and family-friendly place.
