On August 10th and 11th, bring your entire family to experience a thrilling air show at the Festival of Flight Air Spectacular. Located at the Oakland County International Airport, the Waterford, Michigan, event is open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
It doesn’t matter if you’re little one is a budding aviation enthusiast or you’re just looking for an excuse to leave the house—there’s something for everyone to enjoy at this annual air show, from talking to pilots and getting up close and personal with different aircraft to food trucks, a kids play area, and more.
Pontiac Lake Adventure Challenge
On August 2nd, teach your children about the power of teamwork when you sign up for the MiSCA Pontiac Lake Adventure Challenge. Inspired by the traditional adventure challenges, which can sometimes go for multiple days, this annual event offers a variety of challenges of different lengths and disciplines, including mountain biking, trekking, and land navigation.
Located at the Pontiac Lake Recreation Area, this annual event is free to register for and has quickly become a local favorite for those looking for a family-friendly adventure in Waterford. Teams are generally capped at four people and comprised of students and parents/coaches. Please note that younger participants are encouraged to sign up for the 1-hour challenge.
Take a Day Trip to Canterbury Village
If you have time in your busy August for a day trip outside of Waterford, Michigan, we at The Breakie Bunch Learning Center can’t recommend Canterbury Village in Lake Orion enough. Open Friday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, this open-air museum offers visitors a glimpse into the past with its old-fashioned storefronts and delicious themed treats. The staff also hosts special events throughout the summer, including a Barbeque Festival on August 1st-3rd and the annual Michigan Made Festival on August 23rd and 24th.
